Powerful Sitecore multitool with step-by-step instructions

This is a great book if you are a beginner Sitecore developer and searching for a single entry to learn its basics and core features. The approach taken in this book is learning by doing, without long introductions or boring retelling of documentation. The entire book is a set of "recipes", grouped by Sitecore subsystems, which shortly describe a problem you need to solve and follow you step by step to the solution. This way you quickly learn what Sitecore can do and how to make him do it, and later you can dig more inside a topic with good understanding of practical side of it.

Recipes are well written, short and clear. A lot of them can be applied to real world Sitecore solutions. All major Sitecore topics are covered here, including MVC, analytics, search, workflows, caching, scalability etc. There are also plenty of references to resources with advanced solutions and explanations. I think seasoned Sitecore developers can also find some interesting solutions or Sitecore features they didn't use and add them to their toolbox.

The book is targeted to Sitecore/.Net developers' community providing deeper insights in to the key APIs of Sitecore with step-by-step explanation in each recipe.

Yogesh has done really nice job by explaining the recipes along with the code bundle which helps practically understanding the recipes. While reading I am feeling properly directed through each and every steps without loosing the context. This book feels more like a step-by-step guide for all Sitecore beginners and also provides different perspectives for intermediate and experts.

I am feeling really excited while going through the book and looking forward to implement in future projects. Must read for all Sitecore professionals.

Abi is trying to recover from a breakdown after her twin sister, Lucy's death. It's not easy because she "sees" Lucy everywhere she goes. One day while sitting in a cafe - she sees "Lucy" again and decides to face her. Thank goodness for her sanity it's not Lucy, but someone named Beatrice. Abi takes Beatrice up on her offer and attends the art show she is having at her house. It's not long before Abi & Beatrice becomes fast friends.

Beatrice is so smitten with Abi - she asks her to move in with her. (Pause)

Reread the sentence above... I'll wait!!

I knew my husband for two years before he suggested we move in together. It took me two weeks to give him my decision.

So when Beatrice asked Abi to live with her - I screamed - "Abi, Think about it." Then I put myself in Abi's shoes. Abi lives alone - works as a freelance reporter (when she wants to take assignments) - and spend most of her days reliving the events that led up to Lucy's death. Also, Beatrice said Abi can live with her rent free. That's a great incentive to move in with friends.

Beatrice doesn't live alone. Living with her is her twin brother, Ben, and a few of Bea's artist friends. Beatrice does have one rule - No fraternizing with roommates. That doesn't stop the sparks from flying between Abi & Beatrice's brother, Ben.

Once Abi moves in the house - the "games" begin. Friends become enemies - enemies becomes friends. Does Beatrice know more about Abi than she is letting on? What secrets is Beatrice hiding? What secrets is Abi hiding? The two of them have more in common than they know?

The Sisters is a riveting psychological thriller that will send chills up your spine. The plot is well-written, the characters are flawed, and the twists and turns will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about these characters. The suspense was oozing from the pages. You won't know who to trust. I do have to mention that story takes place in Bath, so I enjoyed adding new words to my vocabulary.

A Twisty-Turny Thriller that Will Leave You Guessing

Abi is a twenty-nine year old woman living in Bath, England who is still reeling from the death of her twin sister Lucy. Losing a twin is hard enough without having to live with the knowledge that you are responsible for your twin's death. Abi's slogging through life, half alive, when she meets Bea and quickly gets swept into her world. Bea, an artist, who survives off the sales of her jewelry and a trust fund provided by her dead grandparents, seems to live a glamorous life in a giant Georgian mansion where she provides refuge for other artists like herself. But, upon moving into an empty bedroom in Bea's house, things soon begin to sour for Abi. Several letters from her sister go missing. Abi's convinced that someone has been in her room after she's left for town. And her friendship with Bea quickly deteriorates when she begins dating Bea's twin brother Ben. Is Abi in the midst of a mental breakdown or is something more sinister at play?
This book was compared to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train and, at first, I didn't really see the comparison. But fifty or so pages in and you won't be able to put the book down. Told from alternating narratives, it can be difficult for the reader to determine who's telling the truth and who's unreliable. About halfway through the book I thought I had the ending figured out but I didn't even see it coming. Filled with twists and turns and doubt, on both the parts of the narration and the reader, this book is a true thriller that will leave readers guessing. My only complaint is that the title is a little misleading. The book appears to be about sisters, but really it's more of an exploration of the relationships between twins and the jealousy that transpires when those relationships are threatened.

Haunting and addictive

Gosh I read this fast – seriously once started there is no stopping so there’s a slight warning for you. Don’t try and fit “just a couple of chapters” in before you have to go somewhere.

The Sisters is a tense and very gripping psychological thriller, totally twisted in the best way possible – in this case rather than one protagonist you just can’t work out and who will drive you mad, you have two.

Abi has lost her twin and is a bit lost herself. Seeing Lucy everywhere she goes, she suffers a breakdown – we meet her later as she is trying to build a new life away from all the horror of her past – then she meets Bea. Free spirit Bea reminds Abi hauntingly of Lucy and is also a twin, they are drawn together. But everybody is hiding something and when Abi moves in with Bea, her brother, and their artistic set things start to get slightly odd.

This flowed from the page like the fastest running river you can imagine, as we jump between Abi and Bea and their thoughts and perceptions – but who is lying, who is truthful, is one of them mad, perhaps even both or is something else entirely going on? Who knows ( well me now obviously) but on the journey I had no clue – I just knew that I was caught up in the lives of these two girls, sympathetic and trusting first one then the other before bouncing back to “I have no clue” and clutching my head.

The narrative style is perfect for this type of tale – creeping up on you, bright sunshine and seemingly happy people but underneath it all a distinctly menacing feel – Claire Douglas builds the tension absolutely superbly, changing the game with almost every other chapter and keeping you firmly off kilter.

Add to that some extraordinarily fascinating characters, a really clever and intelligent plot, some perfect scene setting and a distinct tendency to sneak things up on you, this was a really terrific read. There are quite a few novels around this year that focus on siblings and family dynamic, this is one of the best I’ve read for sheer depth of perception and I really do highly recommend it.

Highly recommend for lovers of fantasy and science fiction novels.

The first Trilogy of my favorite books of all time (4 Trilogies in total set in the same universe). I've read almost every popular fantasy and science fiction series and Traci's books are by far my favourite. The characters are so diverse and relatable and so well written that they feel like real people. These books combine actual history and common myths/folklore with fantasy and science fictions aspects. These are so perfectly woven together in to the story that the alternate histories introduced seem plausible, which I feel really adds to my immersion in the story. I read this series at least once a year and never get bored of it. Could not recommend more highly to fantasy/science fiction readers.

Favorite books I have ever read.

These books (and all of Traci's books, for that matter), single handedly had the biggest impact on my thoughts and beliefs, more than any other books I have read. I recommend this series to anyone who wants a good read, wants to challenge the way they think, wants to escape into an amazing story... I will continue to read these stories over and over for the rest of my life.

Well researched and well presented. All managers must read this book.

This is a well researched book. The authors arrived at their conclusions after analyzing data collected by Gallup over 25 years - using an impressive sample size of 80 thousand managers and 1 million staff from 400 companies. Gallup has used its expertise in survey research to link employee engagement to business performance. The concepts are well explained and presented.
The essence of the findings lie in the 4 Keys of great managers and the 12 Questions that give organizations the information they need to attract, focus, and keep the most talented employees.
The 4 Keys of great managers:
1. Select for talent - the authors define talent as "recurring patterns of behavior" and state that great managers find the match between talents and roles.
2. Define the right outcomes - managers needs to turn talent into performance. This can be done by defining the right outcomes and letting people find their own route toward the outcomes.
3. Focus on strengths - managers need to concentrate on strengths and not on weaknesses.
4. Find the Right Fit - managers need to assign roles to employees that give the employees the greatest chance of success.
The 12 Questions make an excellent list of questions that will be helpful to organizations as well as to employees. The authors group the questions into various categories and explain the importance of each question and group.
I give this book 5 stars because the insights are practical and backed by empirical evidence, and the book is well presented. I was able to apply the concepts immediately. I read this book when I was assigned the role of a team lead. I was able to improve the efficiency of the team by assigning tasks to people based on their individual strengths.
This book has a lot of substance. I am sure I will be referring to it often to make the valuable insights a part of my management style. In addition, it does a good job explaining key business terms that people often take for granted, such as talent, skills, knowledge, etc.
I also like the fact that this book has proven some of Peter Drucker's concepts with scientific research. Here are a couple of examples that are verbatim quotes from "The Essential Drucker" :
Chapter 9 : Picking People - The Basic rules: (page 130):
"... the person and the assignment need to fit each other.",
"... effective executives do not start out by looking at weaknesses. You cannot build performances on weaknesses. You can build only on strengths".
"First Break..." is an excellent book that I recommend as a must read to every manager and anybody interested in management.

I read it in two sittings, and made extensive notes. My only regret is that none of my previous managers (after a 25 year career) had read it - things could have gone a lot differently for me if they had....

I've read a lot of management books, and am an Agile consultant by profession, so I was interested in this book from a perspective of how I should be advising the middle managers that I come across when training teams. This book certainly answered that question...namely that the manager's role is to reach inside each employee and release his/her unique talents into performance. To help employees earn the accolade 'talented' by fitting them in the right role. In this new information age of collaborate, self-organized teams the message in this book is more relevant than ever (despite what the authors say about self-organization (or perhaps because of it)

Decent suggestions but could be a bit better

First off, let me say that this book has a lot of useful suggestions, although some of it seems a little basic. He has the standard "don't get behind in homework," "concepts build on each other" type advice. He also had some genuinely useful advice, like viewing math as, in a sense, a "foreign language" that you need to familiarize yourself with. He also covers other stuff like how to read a math book (which is actually helpful because in all the math I took in high school and college no one ever taught me to do that believe it or not).

This book's easy to read and follow and it's actually pretty interesting. It makes for a quick read, which was refreshing for a book about math.

One of my big complaints was that this book could use proofreading. It has repeated, obvious mistakes in grammar and punctuation. Yes, I understand that this book was written in the days before grammar check, but still, it seems like the proofreader was asleep at the wheel on this one.

Overall, I do recommend this book. It'll help you improve your study skills and get better grades.

Incisive analytical as well as practical discussion of issue

Rarely can an author turn a dissertation into a useful scholarly presentation. Nolting has done just that! He manages to focus on key issues related to barriers to student learning and to provide useful well-written commentary. This text should be on every college faculty member's bookshelf. It will be picked up frequently and increasingly as instructors focus on learning rather than validating entry level skills.

Math Grades Improve With This Book's Advice

Dr. Nolting's "Winning At Math..." helped me pass college math courses after being away from school for 20 years. The book contains a self test to pin point math deficencies so the reader can go directly to the information regarding his or her weaknesses. I do reccomend reading the entire book.
