This volume, focusing on the ureter and the diseases which involve it, is an updated second edition. Many journals and textbooks deal with the physiology, pathology, diagnosis, and therapy of derangements of the urinary tract. In most instances, however, the discussion properly centers on the disease process itself and its primary aspects, with only a tan gential description of effects on the ureter. The editor is therefore correct that the ureter itself should be considered a major organ. Though it has been regarded in the recent past as a simple muscular tube, reacting to stretching or filling by contraction, this simplistic view of ureteral phys iology is changing fast. With expanded knowledge of ureteral physiology, a pharmacology is developing which is becoming useful to the clinician in many ways. One of the most interesting aspects of the ureter is its role in inducing the permanent kidney, the metanephros. Relatively slight displacements in the origin of the ureteral bud result in ectopic ureteral orifices and a wide range of congenital anomalies. An ureteral bud which arises medial to the normal position at the genu of the mesonephric duct results in a lateral, and usually incompetent, ureterovesical junction after the duct is taken up to form a portion ofthe trigone. This appears certainly to be the developmental mechanism which results in primary reflux.

Wonderful Holiday Book!!
By Lovely Reader
The Biggest series is super adorable I love them and so do my 5 children, I like to read how the 2 little mice always seem to work out the problem in the end of each story. The illustrations are wonderful so are the length of the books. Some books now can look small but be jammed with words. Being over wordy in a children's book is not good. These books are not too wordy they give details, spike your attention every page. The Biggest Christmas Tree Ever by Steve Kroll is great for children 3 and up. We recommend you put them on your Christmas list!

Simple and entertaining
By Amazon Customer
This is almost a version of city mouse country mouse, except these two friends from different families, come together and work together to make everyone happy. I liked the way the two main characters have their story told, side by side, allowing children to see the clear similarities. A nice story which became a fast favourite with the kids (3yrs & 6yrs).

Katie's work was very nice but if I wanted a book of her paintings ...
By Donald M. Kolstad
I was expecting more of Richard's demos. Katie's work was very nice but if I wanted a book of her paintings I would
choose to buy it...besides I already own
"Alla Prima" and "Alla Prima ll"...the real thing. In favor of the book, it has a lot of good reference material for the middle levels and down.

Great Book!
By Todd M
I recently purchased "Alla Prima II Companion" and I couldn't be more happy with it. As an artist and fan of Richard's paintings and teachings, I found the material presented here an essential collection of valuable information generously shared by Richard and the author, Katie Swatland. Among other things, it provides a detailed account of Richard's materials and the technical aspects of his methods. These are topics that are not covered in "Alla Prima" or "Alla Prima II", but are an essential component of his teachings. The book is very well-written and illustrated with many high-quality images of Richard's paintings, and, as an added bonus, Katie's beautiful artwork and knowledge is also shared. She is clearly a gifted writer and artist, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to expand their knowledge of art and art making.

Not worth the Money
By Judith A. Weller
Over-priced because it has Schmid's name on it. It tells you the same things about stretching canvas, choosing paints etc. that you can find in a lot cheaper books. The pictures are nice but not worth the price.

How to Successfully Date a Married Man: Understanding and Abiding by the Rules, by Gloria Bonds

Gloria Bonds' How to Successfully Date a Married Man delivers a full dose of reality to the other woman on the ins and outs, the cons, and the expectations of dating a married man. She conducted more than 250 interviews with the largest sample population being women who were or are the "other woman." Husbands who are cheaters or who have cheated and wives who have experienced the pain of their husband's affairs make up the rest of the population size. Although she primarily targets the other woman, these interviews produced a collection of stories that revealed not only patterns of behaviors among married man who cheat, but a frame of reference among women who believe they can successfully cheat with, date, and have another woman's husband. The revelations made by both cheating husbands and the other women that date them in no way are meant to condone or promote cheating. How to Successfully Date a Married Man is an exploration in speaking the truth about dating a man who is married, the commonalities of these relationships, and the aftermath effects on the other woman, the married man and his wife. As the author writes, "There are lessons to be learned by all."

Gloria Bonds is an author and a PhD candidate in clinical psychology. Her professional and educational background in human relations and psychology has given her a broad base from which to approach various subject matters. Her master's capstone project examined the successful outcome of high school abstinence intervention programs without prior instruction on sexual media content. She is a member of The Writer's Center, The Association of Writers and Writing Programs, The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, The American Psychological Association, and The Association for Psychological Science. This is her first book. Future projects include; Nappy-G, a children's series, and The Struggle to Heal, which will be published next year. You may learn more about her work at www.gloriabonds.com. Clear and Honest Analysis of Affairs
By TheBanshee
I eould recommend this book to all women who are in, or are contemplating, an affair with a married man. The book clearly outlines what these women are up against in a way that avoids being overly judgmental.
The title isn't to betaken literally. But the subject should be taken seriously. I wish I had been able to read this book when I was 21 and naive as they came. I'm a wife now (thankfully to a faithful man (he's 74 now and if he's having an affair, more power to him!) and I could identify strongly with both the other eoman and the wife. Bonds tells some pretty uncomfortable truths, but she is fair and her findings jive with my one drama-and-shame-filled experience with a married man. Ugh. Forty years later, I still hate that guy in principle. I just don't feel the pain anymore. I'd be in a loony bin if I did.
Anyway, read the book. It's good.

A man's perspective of this book
By james
I purchased this and several other books on the subject of being 'the other woman' because a female co-worker of mine is involved with a married man. As a male, I could understand his interests, whether I agree with what they are doing or not. On the other hand, I wanted to see a woman's perspective on what my co-worker may (or may not) be getting into. I have no romantic interest in my co-worker but we are on close enough terms that I wanted a book I could put in her hand and say something to the effect of 'Consider this...'.

I indicated that I bought several books on this subject from Amazon and this is one of two that I did pass on to my co-worker who thanked me after reading it. I believe this book would be beneficial to any woman who is involved with or is considering being involved with a married man. One of the single best points of this book is that it is not morally ambiguous. In fact, the first sentence of the preface begins with '... dating married men is both inappropriate and licentious'. Chapter two is clearly titled 'Avoid Dating a Married Man'. Some other books I saw were little more than paper backed versions of tawdry tabloid gossip but this book is authored in a way which leaves no reader wondering if there is a way to justify what she is involved in (or he, if a man should read this book). It clearly condemns married dating and offers a plethora of warnings in every chapter that a woman who dates a married man is headed for heartbreak at the very least. Author Dr. Gloria Bonds interviewed 250 women who dated married men and she compiled several lists which shed valuable light on this subject. One is a list of excuses that married men use to prolong or 'explain' their infidelity and another is a list of excuses that women give for dating married men. While these are not the only compilations included, they certainly are indicative of the book's content. Another strength is that this book clearly delineates how a boyfriend is not the same as an affair and lists why. My one criticism of this book is the title. It implies that the book is a 'how to' manual of how to conduct an affair which it is not. On the other hand, the book does address the subject of 'If one does date a married man then you should expect...' and it lists the obvious drawbacks that women face when romantically involved with someone who is married. This is definitely worth a read for the person facing temptation because it does not glorify adultery or make it look glamourous.

Great Read
By PeeJay Davis
The adage "don't judge a book by its cover" definitely applies to this. This book is NOT a how-to book but a must read for all women who are currently involved or considering involvement with a married man. This is a reality check and is written in such a way I found myself having compassion for the women who believed what they were being told. This is definitely a great read!

The Only Pirate at the Party, by Lindsey Stirling, Brooke S. Passey

Dancing electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling shares her unconventional journey in an inspiring memoir filled with the energy, persistence, and humor that have helped her successfully pursue a passion outside the box.

A classically trained musician gone rogue, Lindsey Stirling is the epitome of independent, millennial-defined success: after being voted off the set of America’s Got Talent, she went on to amass more than ten million social media fans, record two full-length albums, release multiple hits with billions of YouTube views, and to tour sold-out venues across the world.

Lindsey is not afraid to be herself. In fact, it’s her confidence and individuality that have propelled her into the spotlight. But the road hasn’t been easy. After being rejected by talent scouts, music reps, and eventually on national television, Lindsey forged her own path, step by step. Detailing every trial and triumph she has faced until now, Lindsey shares stories of her humble yet charmed childhood, humorous adolescence, life as a struggling musician, personal struggles with anorexia, and finally, success as a world-class entertainer. Lindsey’s magnetizing story—at once remarkable and universal—is a testimony that there is no singular recipe for success, and despite what people may say, sometimes it’s okay to be The Only Pirate at the Party.

The Only Pirate at the Party A GIRL
IN CURLS

As a child, I had a big head, a tiny voice, and a total disregard for social cues. All young kids are oblivious at first—public tantrums and soiling one’s pants are somehow okay in infancy—but eventually most children start noticing and mimicking cultural norms. I, on the other hand, managed to glide through childhood without perceiving (or perhaps caring about) these “accepted behaviors.” To be clear, my mother tells me I stopped pooping my pants at a very early age, but she also told me not to use any form of the word poop in my book. Anyway, I just never seemed to care much about what other people were doing.

I was a natural-born drama queen, and my kindergarten classroom set the stage for one of my earliest impromptu performances. One morning as I was getting dressed for school I found myself digging through boxes of dress-up clothes instead of my dresser. And to think, all this time I’d been limiting the use of costumes to playdates and Halloween—what a waste!

Minutes later, I emerged from my room wearing a kimono, red sequined shoes, a single glove, and a curly brown wig. Had the wig been red I would have been overjoyed—Little Orphan Annie was one of my first idols—but this wig would do. It had short, uneven ringlets, and if I shifted my weight just so, I could make the frizzy curls dance around my face. The cute outfit my mother had purchased for the first day of school lay in a heap on my bedroom floor. When I announced to her that I was ready for school, she took one bemused look at me and did what any good mother would do—she handed me my lunch and drove me to Jefferson Elementary.

When I arrived, my class was already gathered for Circle Time, reading quietly on the opposite side of the room. To draw their attention I walked through the door, spread my arms wide, and struck the most dramatic pose I could think of. “Tada!” I said in a mouse-like voice as I hopped from one spindly leg to the other. The class erupted into giggles, and I felt like a champion. Mrs. Fowler wasted no time in sending for the principal—but only so she could showcase her slightly odd student.

Despite my larger-than-life theatrics, I was always quite small for my age. In the first grade, I compensated by becoming best friends with two giants named Krista and Naomi. Maybe their tall-girl instincts told them I needed looking after, or maybe I subconsciously gravitated to their protective body types; either way, we made a wicked team.

Here we are on a field trip to the petting zoo, Krista and Naomi mean muggin’ the camera in my defense.

On second thought, maybe it was our mutual love for saggy denim that brought us together.

Krista and Naomi’s parents were also best friends, so they were constantly doing things together outside of school. After a few months of playing with them at recess, the girls brought me into their inner circle of friendship by inviting me to Knott’s Berry Farm. When Naomi asked me if I wanted to go with her I was speechless. Going to Knott’s Berry Farm was considered a full-fledged vacation for my family. Apparently, to hers it was an average weekend activity, one to which she could invite friends no less!

When Naomi’s mom called that night I could hear my mom in the next room.

“Hi Clair, I was just thinking we needed to invite Naomi over again soon.”

There was a pause.

“Oh, are you sure? Okay.” My mom continued, “Thank you, she is going to be so excited.”

And just like that it was settled.

On the morning of our outing I slipped into my best saggy jeans and waited anxiously for my ride by the front door. As I sat looking out the window my mom watched from the kitchen.

“Lindsey, are you excited to go to Knott’s Berry Farm?” she asked.

“Yes,” I said smiling, eagerly looking for Naomi’s red SUV.

“I want you to tell me about all the rides when you get back. Maybe another time we’ll go together.”

“Okay,” I replied, my focus unwavering.

My mom, like most, wanted to give her kids everything and more. But she was also the kind of mom who never spent money she didn’t have. If we ran out of milk before the end of the month, we ate Cream of Wheat instead of cereal; and when we ate a lot of Cream of Wheat, we didn’t go places like the local Blockbuster, let alone Knott’s Berry Farm.

“Hey Lindsey, look at me for a second.”

Reluctantly, I turned toward my mom. She was smiling gently.

“You know I love you, right?”

“Yep,” I said quickly, but I was immediately distracted by the slow crunch of tires pulling into the driveway.

“She’s here!” I screamed, jumping up and running for the door.

“All right, have fun!” she yelled back, scrubbing a pan in the sink.

Soon after arriving at the amusement park, we realized I wasn’t tall enough for the most exciting rides. I frequently got left behind with Naomi’s younger brother, Troy. At first I was disappointed—how was I going to tell my mom about the rides if I couldn’t even get on them? But eventually Naomi’s mom started buying Troy and me special treats to keep us occupied. All I had to do was look at something for longer than six seconds and she would offer to buy it: cotton candy, churros, frozen lemonade, fry bread, and endless turns at the ring toss booth. The wonders of concession stand food were new to me. Usually, when we went out, my mom packed sandwiches that became soggy in her purse by lunchtime. Naomi’s mom had obviously forgotten to make lunches, which was okay, since she seemed to have an endless supply of five-dollar bills to fill their place.

At one point, Naomi’s mom suggested that the girls go on a smaller ride with Troy and me. Naomi looked back and forth between her mother and Krista before she replied, “But those rides are boring.” I waited for Naomi’s mom to pull her daughter aside to have a chat about being polite and, I don’t know, a good friend. Instead, she handed me another five-dollar bill and let the girls go on their way.

Before long I was stuffed, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. There was no telling when I would get another opportunity to have so much processed food and sugar, or win such ugly (but giant!) stuffed animals again. So I kept looking, and eating, and playing the ring toss. When I returned home at the end of the day I felt sick. But I was delighted by the hideous stuffed lizard under my arm. So what if I’d spent the entire day with a four-year-old boy?

Over time Krista and Naomi introduced me to other things: the Miss America Pageant, eating at restaurants for no particular reason, and the idea of getting paid for doing chores. They called that one “allowance,” and they were both shocked to hear I had never received one.

“What do you mean you don’t get paid to clean your room?”

I was also surprised to find out that a different tooth fairy visits rich people. One time Naomi received five dollars for a front tooth. One tooth! It wasn’t even that big. In fact, Naomi had tiny teeth—the kind of teeth that barely reached the cob when she ate corn. I, on the other hand, had beaver cleavers, and I was certain they were going to work in my favor. The next time I lost a tooth I asked Naomi if she would put it under her pillow, which she did, and I eagerly awaited my grand prize. Her fairy was going to be so impressed. The next day she returned with the tooth but no cash. Her fairy didn’t buy it. Disappointed, I put it under my pillow and awoke the next morning to find two shiny quarters in its place. I imagined my little fairy carrying those quarters through the night, one under each arm (which would have been much harder to fly with than a five-dollar bill), and I was grateful for her extra effort—even if the amount of money was a letdown. At breakfast that morning my mom handed me a bowl of Cream of Wheat and sat down at the table.

“So, did the tooth fairy come last night?” she asked.

I considered telling her about Naomi’s five dollars, but I was worried she might call the Tooth Fairy Office to complain, and what if my fairy got fired? I kept it to myself and answered, “Yes, I got two quarters.”

“Two whole quarters? That must have been one big tooth!”

Tell that to Naomi’s fairy, I thought. But the more I thought about it, the more I appreciated my fairy’s quarters. She wasn’t the richest, obviously, but she was definitely one of the strongest. I liked my little fairy, she did good.

Wonderful lessons and inspirations we can all learn from...
By Whitewater
Her music has such broad appeal, that the couple of times I've met Lindsey at her Meet & Greets I've kidded her that I am "president of the senior Stirlingites!" (Someone has to speak for her legions of older fans!) After reading her book, I'm even more convinced that she is at the cutting edge of changing how the music industry works and operates behind the scenes. She is the new model of the American Dream and has almost single-handedly fought through every barrier and obstacle to achieve success. Despite what other celebrities want you to believe, Lindsey's independence is a rare commodity in Hollywood and she's built her own brand from the ground up through guts, determination, and never taking her fans for granted. She may be the only pirate at the party and because she is "different" she has always charted her own course -- even if she is using a couch as a boat -- to the chagrin of those who underestimate her talents and resilience. Lindsey wrote the book with the help of her sister, Brooke, who is an amazingly talented writer (their father is too!) and it provides a fascinating and honest look at Lindsey's roller coaster life. It's serious, funny, and touching all at the same time. This book would appeal to all age groups and I'm glad she documented her experiences -- I can picture her grandchildren reading this someday and laughing their heads off. It provides wonderful lessons and inspirations we can all learn from, regardless of our age.

Meaningful and heartfelt
By Chris E. Hanson
This is a real book about a real person. Many celebrity (auto)biographies are narcissistic promotional pieces, existing only to "build the brand" and re(de)fine the public persona of the subject. This one, like its subject, is a little different. Sure, nobody produces a biography about themselves to hide their inner self, in the end this book exists to bring more exposure to Ms Stirling. But it's not the sort of self-sycophantic me-worship of so many others. There are the stories about the embarrassing moments of life and performance, the mis-steps, the self-doubt and the failure to meet the expectations of Reality TV Showbiz and orchestral professionals. But there are also the meaningful moments of triumph and friendship and family,

While this is a book about Lindsey Stirling, violin super-star, it introduces you to Lindsey Stirling, the actual person with weird quirks, funny friends, awkward family, unpopular religion and strict morals and a peculiar pirate obsession.

Will anyone who isn't a Stirling fan buy this book? Maybe not, because they wouldn't know why they should. Would anyone who isn't a Stirling fan get something out of this book? Yes, completely. Because at the end of the day, like many of Stirling's songs, this book is about a girl finding her true calling, being dedicated enough to pursue it through all the setbacks, eating disorders, crises of confidence, music business depravity and Piers Morgan, and overcoming them all to become a superstar. All while remaining true to herself, her family and her music. Just about anyone could learn from that.

Written in a lighthearted and self-deprecating tone, in conjunction with her sister, this book is an easy and enjoyable read for anyone who likes Stirling's music and wants to know more about the girl behind the limelight, or anyone who wants to be inspired to take on their own demons. And overcome Piers Morgan.

A novel told in a strong Southern voice

Ruth Ann Tillman loves to sing, especially the solo in the annual Babbs Switch, Oklahoma, Christmas Tree Celebration. And no matter what Elden Larrs says teasingly, she’s good. But this year, 1924, Mom and Pop won’t let Ruthie perform. The problem is Daphne, her sister. At sixteen, four years older than Ruthie, Daphne still carries her one-armed, bald-headed doll for comfort and reaches out to stroke anything soft and soothing. When she almost smothers Mrs. Larrs’s baby this way, Mom and Pop know they’re in trouble – and that Ruthie had better not appear on the schoolhouse stage. Ruthie is indignant. Why does she have to share her life with such an oddball sister? Christmas Eve arrives, and Ruthie goes to the celebration, even though she can’t participate, and even though “daffy” Daphne is at her side. At least she can see Elden. Then the schoolhouse catches fire, as it really did on that night in Babbs Switch, and Ruthie discovers what her sister means to her.

Inspired by a tragedy, Darleen Bailey Beard’s tribute to Babbs Switch is nonetheless filled with humor and warmth and the charm of first romance.

From Publishers Weekly
In 1924, in Babbs Switch, Okla., 36 people died when fire broke out at a Christmas party in the town's one-room schoolhouse. As a note makes clear, the event inspired Beard's (The Flimflam Man) novel, but the incendiary relationships not the fire fuel it. Twelve-year-old Ruthie Tillman tires of the idiosyncrasies of her older sister, Daphne, who is "not right in the head" (she seems mentally retarded) and whose "uncontrollable passion for soft things" has resulted in her unintentionally suffocating the family's kittens. When Daphne comes close to killing the Larrses' baby, Elizabeth, Ruthie and her parents are appalled and worried, and Ruthie is kept from performing in the Christmas Tree Celebration. But at that fateful party, Daphne escapes with Elizabeth, saving the life she nearly extinguished. Colorful, period-flavored dialogue keeps this tale moving at a fast clip as it explores the complexities of friendship, family dynamics and the awkward but exhilarating steps toward first love. "I'd rather kiss the south end of a northbound mule!" Ruthie tells pesky Elden Larrs, yet by book's end, Elden's kiss makes her "spine tingle like a hedgehog." Beard makes plentiful references to the '20s (George Gershwin, Bessie Smith, scandalously bobbed flappers); at the same time, her evocation of the jumbled feelings of adolescence both loving and hating a sister (or a pesky boy) are timeless. Ages 10-up.

From School Library Journal
Grades 6-9--This slight historical novel follows 12-year-old Ruth Ann Tillman as she comes to terms with changing friendships, her older sister's disability, and a devastating schoolhouse fire. It's 1924 and Ruthie is growing up in a small Oklahoma town. Some of the townspeople think her older sister belongs in an institution, but Ruthie knows that Daphne is just different. At 16, she still doesn't understand that squeezing a kitten too hard can kill it. When Ruthie is chosen to sing the solo in the school's Christmas pageant, she's thrilled. Then Daphne, who has a passion for soft things, nearly suffocates a neighbor's infant. To keep the family out of the spotlight, Ruthie's parents forbid her to perform. Everything comes to a head at the pageant, where a candle on the Christmas tree ignites the crowded one-room schoolhouse. With Daphne presumed dead, Ruthie finally realizes how much her sister means to her. Then, in a twist that is far too neat, the teen is found alive and is a hero after rescuing the very baby she nearly killed earlier in the book. Beard's novel is based on a real event, a fire that killed 36 people and led to new safety laws nationwide. However, the story deals more with Ruth Ann's personal dilemmas than the historical tragedy. It is a quick read, packed with period detail, but much of the novel isn't particularly memorable and the happily ever after ending defies belief.

From Booklist
Gr. 5-8. On Christmas Eve in 1924, in Babbs Switch, Oklahoma, 36 people died in a fire started by a candle on a Christmas tree in the schoolhouse. Beard takes that historical event and weaves around it the story of 12-year-old Ruthie, whose parents call her Ruthie Bird for her sweet singing voice. Ruthie loves her older sister, Daphne, but Daphne has never learned to read, persists in counting things over and over, and most of all, craves the touch of soft things. When Daphne smothers a kitten and, very nearly, a baby, Ruthie's parents keep her from singing in the Christmas pageant for fear of reprisals from the town. The climactic pageant occurs and Ruthie's best friend sings her solo. Then, the fire rages, and it is Ruthie's knowledge of Daphne's habits that enables her to find her sister in the chaos. This illumination of an historic period is done in workmanlike fashion, but the book does capture the period, and the novelty of electricity, radio, and recorded music: Gershwin and Bessie Smith, whom Ruthie loves, are coming into their fame. A Must Read!
By darleen
I love this book! Of course, I wrote the book, but I happen to also love it. It's based on a true story about a tragic event that took place in Babbs Switch, OK, on Christmas Eve night in 1924. Because of what happened on that very night, in a one-room school house where everyone had gathered to celebrate Christmas, the school is no longer there. Neither is the town. Read it--you'll love it, too. This book won the Oklahoma Book Award and the Gamma State Author Award.

Review
Well-written and presented with a few surprises, The Boy from the Woods is leisure reading teens will appreciate.
Have you ever wanted to believe the leopard could change his spots so badly that you've contemplated repeating past, predictable patterns of defeat against all odds and logic? And have you ever seen a total transformation that required proof to be believed?
All this and more is faced by a spunky female protagonist who finds herself on the wrong wide of romance with seemingly a second chance for success ... but, is it real? That's Julia's dilemma - and one not easily resolved. The fact that she doubts both circumstances and herself, at times, lends to the strength and believability of the plot: Especially notable is the presentation of how Julia grows and evolves. There are no pat answers available, and that's one satisfyingly realistic aspect of the story.

But, be forewarned - this isn't strictly a romance - it includes a dose of the paranormal. Just how does this happen? Therein lies the heart of The Boy From the Woods.

I Really Like IT
By Sexy LM
Let me just say that this is the first book that I read from this author. and I have to say it is not what I was expecting I actually like it, like the characters and how it turned out bee. I am gone keep this short cause I don't want to give anything away. you just gone have to read the book and find out :)

Julia has had a crush on Michael for years. He's popular and arrogant. She thanks her lucky stars when he shows interest in her at their senior prom, after that they when out on few dates and on their last date they had sex, and he stop calling her she did not hear from him for an entire week, when she finally bump into him he acted like he did not know her like she did not mean anything to him, and he just broke her heart. When she went for a run through the woods towards her favorite oak tree she finds Michael on the ground with his motorbike next to him. after he open his ayes the first person that he saw was Julia and what was that for. After that accident he changes and Julia can’t wrap her head around it and yet she wants to believe that he is changed.

This book kept me on my toes through the this story, cause I just kept thinking he is gone do something and just mess everything up. Oh wow was I wrong what it did was to make me cried and yes cried like a baby.

I hope that once you read this story that you get to enjoy it and like it as much as I did.

Author Jen Minkman THANK YOU for introducing me to this awesome book, and this great characters.

Uh-oh...I see I will be upsetting a few people with this 2 star review of mine.

Have you ever met someone for the first time and in the beginning when you are first introduced, you think they are pretty cool and someone you could really like, then they start talking and you find that your nerves become a little irritated, then they have mannerisms that just get under your skin and by the end of the night, you notice every little thing that is wrong with them and the spittle that flies out of their mouth every time they speak is the last straw and if you don’t get out of their company soon, you’re bound to do them bodily harm and probably spend the night in jail? Yeah, that can pretty much sum up my encounter with The Boy from the Woods and it’s painfully obvious, we just weren’t meant to be friends. The blurb sounded so promising and I was looking forward to reading this, but after a few chapters, I wanted to be put out of my misery and by the end, I was mentally unfriending and blocking this book from my friend book list.

I have this memory of when I went to the theater to see the movie, The Village by M. Night Shyamalan and about midway into the movie, I remember leaning over and whispering to my friend, “this movie would be so dumb if it’s all actually taking place in the present time, but for some reason, they are living like the Amish in some middle of the woods compound and don’t even know it!” (note: I have nothing against the Amish) So, you can imagine my reaction when the great reveal happened at the end of that movie, I was so astonished at the sheer ridiculousness of it all and the fact that I had been pretty spot on with my earlier prediction, that I was actually offended. Well, something like that kind of happened again while I was reading this. I had a moment where I thought, “I really hope that THIS is not where Ms. Minkman is taking this story!” and I’ll be darned if that isn’t EXACTLY where she went.

If you decide to read this book, you need to also be aware of a few cultural differences, because one thing I know for sure is that beer and wine were NOT on the menu at my school prom, so it’s pretty obvious that the legal age limit for drinking is a bit younger there than it is here in the states. It’s not a big deal and I wouldn’t have minded having beer and wine at my prom (legally), but just fair warning to some readers who might find stuff like that hard to grasp.

Overall, this was not a book I enjoyed and I really wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It was not just one big thing that turned me off of this book, but also several little things that all culminated together to make this a bad experience for me. The concept was there, but everything else failed in my opinion.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Storm Publishers for the ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Boy from the Woods
By Serenity
So I love working with Jen and this has to be my favorite book by her yet!!!! Oh the love story of Julia and Michael is so lovely. Those two have their connection that sparks up and I really love them and have to be one of the best couples ever! Omg do not read the ending! You will cry wanting more more more more more! Seriously, Jen shouldn't have left it that way!!

Julia loves being in the woods. It's been her place, when things don't go so well, like a death or a parent's divorce. The best part of it, she can daydream of Michael, the hottest guy she has loved for over two years now. Well her friend Gabby is there and is a fun character.

Now the thing about Michael is that he used to be all nasty and then poof, he was this new guy. He was found in the woods in a serious condition, and suddenly he wasn't close to dying. He became healed and things changed. He started to take an interest in her in their senior year. He and Julia talk and they spent a night at his house, a whole dream some true. A week later and she hasn't heard from Michael since, and then they meet and he said that he was out of town and left with a kiss on her cheek. So right now you'll be yelling at Michael for what he is doing to Julia, and yes I wanted to jump in and teach him a few lessons for some more pages.

Though as the book goes on, you will change your mind and agree that they are lovey together. Michael will prove himself, so you will then yell for him to be more cute.

Julia through all of this, is just amazing. She is strong, capable, loving, smart, just fits into this story so perfectly.

I really loved this book and want to read more! I hope that this will somehow turn into a mini series. I can't stop going crazy for this book, really one of the best books I've read this year. Which is good, since I've only felt super crazy for three other books this whole year.

So I give this book 5 stars!
